Sunday, July 10, 2005, 8:30 AM - Buller Creek Trail head.
As planned my first trip this week is Mt. Engadine. The sky is mainly overcast. It did rain last night/eve so the ground is damp in places could be a wet walk in the forest.
11 AM - Gained ridge, Alt: 2203m
I have gained the ridge, no more bushwhacking. I was fortunate to find an animal track to follow most of the way through the trees. Time to start the traverse 767m to go.
12 PM - 2380m
I had to stop for lunch, I was feeling a bit weak. I have 600m left to climb. The sky has continued overcast and I think it is not going to clear, but is lifting just taking time. There is a great view of the French/Robertson Glaciers, plus Assinboinne if the clouds would lift.
I have another gully to traverse, at least this one is mostly grass covered no rock like the last one.
9:30 PM - Back at camp(after supper)
Dam mountain. It has more ridges than I have teeth. At 2:30 PM when I found a second ridge I could not down climb, after hanging on for dear life at least twice on the previous one. It was time to turn around, 300m from the summit.
ARRRGGG!!!
The down climb was no different I lost count of the number of gullies I crossed everyone of them had drop off in it. When I got into the trees I decided to use the GPS to get me back to the car, using whatever trail headed that way. Then it started raining. By the time I got to the car I was soaked from my thighs down.
