Tuesday, July 11, 2000 - Buller Pass

I have decided to hike up to South Buller pass to look at Guinn's Pass. I want to see how snowbound it really is. If I feel like it I may hike over to North Buller pass.

Tuesday, July 11, 2000 - 11:30 PM - Buller Pass Trail head.

Off to hike to the South Buller Pass. Sky is overcast, but it is warm. The trail looks snow free but the pass may be snow covered. I am taking my Ice Axe just in case. There is a small group of kids going backpacking I hope to get ahead of them.

3:11 PM - South Buller Pass.

I arrived here at 2:34 PM, have stopped for lunch while enjoying the view. I have not seen or heard that group of kids; maybe I will run into them on the way down. I stopped on the trail just where it turns the corner, just before the split for North or South passes and climbed the ridge to look back down the valley. Got windy once I left the valley bottom.

There are still quite a few patches of snow here and on the mountains around me. I was thinking of going on but since I started out so late I think I will turn back. I had to find a place to sit that was out of most of the wind here. Time for a few pictures then I will head down.

5:30 PM Back at Car.

It was an uneventful trip down, got warmer and less windy as I got further down. Ran into the campground from the kids, but not them.
